Recycled leather materials: sourcing and documentation

Explore Re-Leather material references and learn what to confirm about recycled inputs, company certification scope and sample documentation.

Identify which part is recycled

Recycled material descriptions can refer to a backing, coating or another component. Recycled PU-based constructions and bonded leather-fibre materials are not interchangeable names. For a shortlisted Re-Leather reference, request the actual construction and recycled input information rather than inferring a composition or percentage from the series name.

Separate company scope from material evidence

SHANGJIAN publishes its company GRS and RCS scope certificates on the sustainability page. Their listed activities are trading and warehousing. These documents do not by themselves certify every material reference, colour or shipment. Ask the team to confirm the selected material, applicable scope and any order-specific documentation requirements.

Use grain as a design choice

The published GRS series includes smooth, nappa, pebbled and sheep-grain directions. These names describe surface appearance, not animal origin or guaranteed performance. Compare an actual swatch for handfeel, gloss, colour and the way the material behaves when folded or stitched. A recycled input does not automatically make a finished composite recyclable or biodegradable.

Prepare a material-level sample enquiry

Include the GRS series and colour number, end use, expected quantity, delivery region and required documentation in your enquiry. Request project-specific specifications and agree tests before production. This lets the team check the material you will use, rather than provide a generic sustainability statement.

Surface directions are visual references. Confirm construction, performance and colour with a physical sample and matching documentation.
